Himiway A7 Pro Review | Himiway’s Best Commuter E-Bike Yet?

At the beginning of 2024, the Electric Bike Report team attended CES in Las Vegas, where we were stunned by Himiway’s display of new and revamped e-bikes. One of the most enticing models bearing the brand’s refreshed design was a new full-suspension commuter called the A7 Pro. We finally got our hands on the bike – and we’re excited to share all its details in this Himiway A7 Pro review!

Aside from its fantastic aesthetics, the A7 had excellent ride quality with a clear focus on comfort. The bike’s SR Suntour X1 Boost suspension fork and DNM AO-6 rear shock worked together for a remarkably smooth, enjoyable ride.

We liked the bike’s natural and engaging pedal feel as well. The A7 Pro features a powerful, custom 500W mid-drive motor with a responsive torque sensor, which made for a fun and lively experience. The motor has heaps of hill climbing power (up to 130 Nm of torque) that effectively flattened hills, but we found that the motor’s output never overpowered our pedaling.

Pinion Is Upgrading Its Gearbox With Smart Shift

Pinion has announced a new wrinkle on their integrated MGU—Motor Gearbox Unit. They have now added Smart Shift, a technology that allows for automatic shifting. Pinion grabbed the e-bike world’s attention when they released their Pinion MGU in the summer of 2023. The MGU is a version of Pinion’s gearbox that also incorporates a motor, merging a mid-drive motor with a transmission.
 

Because the shifting is accomplished electronically—no cables and shifters here—Pinion reports instantaneous gear changes that aren’t affected by whether the rider is pedaling or not. Even when the rider is pedaling at full force, shifts are immediate.

Belgium Offers E-Bike Incentives to Citizens

Among countries that invest in cycling infrastructure, Belgium ranks fifth in spending on a per capita basis. The country invests 5.2 euro per inhabitant. Those funds are directed into infrastructure and policy, making it both safer and easier to get around by bike.

That’s not all the government does for its citizens, though. While the national government doesn’t offer an incentive to purchase an e-bike, several regional governments and many cities offer incentives to purchase e-bikes.
